big tyres and leaf springs????

My mate's got a 75 series ute which he will be running 35's on. The problem is that when he full locks with 33's the tyres scrub-out on the leaf springs, the 35's will be worse.

He has extended shackles giving about a 3" lift and has moved the front axle forward about 35mm so clearance is not an issue. He currently runs offset 15x10" rims (i'm not sure how much offset, but a fair bit)

He was going to use wheel spacers but was strongly advised against them. What are others doing to combat this problem on leaf-sprung trucks? And what are thoughts on wheel spacers?

i had a sprung over 40 series and i ran 38.5x15 claws and i used snake racing 2 inch wheel spacers for front and 3 inch in the rear and never had a problem with the wheel spacers just broke the rest of the driveline................

I have a mate with a 75 ute.He is running 35 x 12.5 muds with just a 2" body lift.

All he did was screw in the stops for the full lock to stop it rubbing.

Could also get rimms with more offset or get the rims you have offset more.

WHat is the current backspace on his rims? I'm trying to combat the same problem.

Tell your mate to do a coil conversion.

Hey Presto, no more rubbing on the leaf... :D

Had the same problem on my hj75 troopy. Just readjusted the steering stops. didn't need much (34x10.5 Simex JT2's)

4 ways to fix it

1. more rim offset
2. spacers
3. adjust the steering lock so the wheels turn less
4. remove leafs and go to coils

incorrect offset wheels. you require a minimum of 3 and 5/8 inch backspace for a 75 series which is what most wheels for crusiers are. I would personally change the rim offset to 2 and 5/8 or 1 and 5/8. fourbys make some sweet custom rims with or without external beadlocks if your from brisbane area. You will also find you have to relocate your front diff further forward to clear the rear of the wheel arch. i shifted mine 40mm to fit a simex 36" et2's but you could get away with only 25mm. http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... c&start=30

Balzackracing:

By my calculations you are running approx 2.1in backspacing at the moment right? But you think you could get away with 2.75in?

Hey Bear, I've got 30 mm extra off set rims on the 60 to run the Q78's. The still rub a little though. I'd be looking at off set rims for sure. The dam things don't turn real well without screwing your lock stops out let alone if you do.
Cheers

Just phoned Pro Comp and found out that their extra offset rims have a 2.5in backspace, not a crazy 1.25in as the website would suggest
