Crawl Ratio?

Hi,

I own an '84 Stage One and got curious about its crawl (final) ratio.

In order to calculate this I need the ratio of 1st gear in the (4spd, LT95?) transmission, low range ratio of my (brand, model?) T-case, and the gearing in the axles, which I know is 3.50:1.

So, any word on the other gearings?

Also, to make this a tad more interesting, lets hear your crawl ratio and tire size - and how you like it!

Thanks.

Your low/low is 47:1 i think.

Yeah, I guess that's fairly decent with 33's, doing mostly rock crawling?

You have about - 4:1 1st gear, 3.32:1 low range and 3.54:1 diffs. Overall 48:1.

I have 49:1 in the IIA and 43:1 in the 110 - both could be lower.

- with 4.1's or even 4.7's diffs from a Series 3 the crawl ratio will be outstanding (63:1). Not that 48:1 is bad - better than most if not all stock crawl ratios. Will need to swap the high range gears in the LT95 transfer with some from a RR or diesel county to get some reasonable road gearing however.

never really looked into ratio swaps before. do the centres from series bolt into later, ie coil, housings?

series rover centers will bolt into all 10 spline rover axles, salisbury centre can also be swapped into a sals coil housing, possibly a spacer plate is required in this case.
While 4.7's are weaker, coil housings are constant 4x4 so the load is spread more evenly accross the diffs, have had no probs with 4.7's in a RR with hard use however would not recommend with lockers or big tyres.

72:1 = Np435 to series transfer case and standard 4:7 diffs.

(fitting tonight, haven't wheeled it yet)

Yeah, I've been thinking a little of regearing. Seeing there's a lot of ex-military 109's around here, I could probably find some thing there. I've understood they have 4.70's in the axles, and that the front third member drops right into my Stage 1 axle housing? But how about the rear, does it have the same D60-style Salisbury thing?

What strenght loss am I looking at with the lower gearing, (thus smaller pinion)?

You guys are shy with your tire dimensions though, too weeny? :)

Series 3 109s have the Salisbury rear. There should be no worries with the R&P strength. Halfshafts will break long before the diff or R&P.

The stock fronts are piss poor weak either way.

BW T18, LT95 and Nissan 4.1's in the diffs

So thats 6.63(first gear) + 3.32 + 4.1 = 90.24

Goes well behind the 300tdi .... LOVE IT!!!!

Use to run 37's...just got 40's but haven't wheeled it yet.

How did you go mating the T18 to the LT95 case ?

Sweeet!

I'm fantasizing about slapping in a set of axles with 5.13's (probably D60/14B), that would set me at about 70:1. Should be pretty neat sporting 37-inch tires (or whereabouts) and a fairly healthy V8?

I'm at 108:1 (ZF auto, LT 230, Ashcroft Underdrive & 4.88s) and love it too!
