Can you use RHS? I would have thought it would be extremely hard to balance.

Id probably go with SHS instead. Be heaps easier to work with IMO.

Ive seen a few comp guys use RHS as a temp job on driveshafts. Not sure if i would use it as a permanant thing though.
V840 i think balancing RHS would be ok as it still sorta balances out as all sides are equal (assuming your using like 40x40RHS not 40x80 or anything)

you wont balance SHS either, i think i used 60x60 outer and 40x40 inner, heavy walled stuff. Just go to the metal shop and see what fits inside the other best. Also shim it up with sheet metal to get a good fit.

Also do a search theres been a few threads on this in recent months.

the point of rhs front shaft is its not going to get balanced!! the only time u r in 4wd is when u r going slow basically so it does not need balancing?? would be different if it was a rear.

ask screwy he made an rhs front one up to get more slip length i think.

There are plenty of RHS shafts getting around on rigs these days. Balance is not much of an issue unless you doing well over 80km/h. Even then mine only barely makes the ute wiggle at speed.

I cant remember the sizes we (me and Drop Bear) used on the shaft, but like he said, go to the shop and just pretend your a gynocologist for a few mins and what shafts fit what holes.

Doesnt that count as SHS?

Point taken about not needing the balancing at low range speeds though.
