Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey all.
Have heard a few wispers here and there about people bringing these GU shorty's into the country and was just wondering if anyone had any info.

I seen a mob that has bought a busted up one in and doing it up for comps etc but was wondering if it is possible to bring em in as a complete unit.

Any ideas on costs etc.
Just curious really at this stage.

Over the last 20 odd times this has been bought up, it cant be done.. SierraJim is the man to speak to, he imports cars for a living.

The main reason I was asking is that I thought it was impossible but have heard of a couple of people that may be doing it it. Could be chinese whispers though.

I did see a sight of some 4x4 mob that had brought one over.

I have family in NZ would this help me out??? lol

There are quite a few SWB GUs here in NZ.

I think the only way you could import it is if it was your car/truck in NZ and you were moving to Australia and wanted to take it with you.

I may be wrong but i remember this from when a family member moved to OZ and took his Hilux over.

has to be registered in your name for 12 mths, adn you have to reside at that address for that time overseas.

I looked very seriously at it about 3 years ago before i got my gq swb but when was looking was impossible to get a petrol 4.5 or 4.8 could only get 3L wiesel which are a bit slow for me. they were saying some crap about polution controls and stuff like that to stop it being reg. in aussie land.

but that was also before they changed the import rules a couple years ago so that may put a halt to things these days

Which is particularly funny because they are the exact same as the lwb variant minus a few inches. It's not like because they are from europe they give out more nastys or anything. It's basically a case of someone somewhere along the lines isn't getting their cut of it so they have put the kaibosh on it.

It's a shame really cause they're soooooo sexy. I would probably give my left nut for a TI TD42ti SWB GU..

There are a few TD42T over here. Harder to get, but I've got my name on an auction site in Japan for one.

Mate brought one in, landed here for $9000nz, on the road.

If I am giving my left nut then I would imagine someone could yank out the boat anchor and put the ole oiler in for me.

My understanding is that there is nothing stopping you actually importing any vehicle you want. It's getting them complianced and rego's thats the issue.
I beleive you can't comply/register an imported vehicle if there is a similar vehicle available locally
This does not apply to (most) race vehicles as they don't need to be registered.
There may be exceptions if you were moving from another country as per the above NZ example but not sure about this myself.

It's Ashley from Perth 4WD Centre who's doing up the GU shorty. It's got a VH45 in it, and is being prep'd for I believe high-speed offroad racing. It looks HORN.

I'd put some pics up but will ask him first if it's ok.

yea for offroad comps it would be ok, but rego would be an issue.

think Mick Christie was doing one too?

could the front bar come down another 8-10inches, it will be on the ground then...

the vehicle has been set-up for off-road racing not rock climbing, so the front bar is like that to protect steering & suspesion

(who wants to loose steering at 200+ kph when your off road ?)

Nice looking unit, a lot of work has gone into that interior, dash etc looks very good. Well done dude nice blue also. Have been thinking of cutting my long wagon into a mid base with A frame rear 5 link front, one day maybe! Nice rig that!

nice, I guess it isn't road registerd tho. Purely an offroad racing vehicle

Even for a general off-road car. I think the bullbar is quite user friengly. Looks like it would have a similar claerance to most other bars. Just hangs abit lower. But the 36" tyres will make up for that.
Oh and I noticed theres even bolt holes for a winch. Dont think much racing at 150+ is gunna need that (or this could be sweet if it could enter OBC).

The best way to hide a boner is to tuck it under your belt That thing looks absolutely hot. I might have been inclined to stretch the rear end back a smidge.
