why is my 80 full of water?

I have been pulling the trim off the drivers side of the 80 from front to back I have noticed water in the channel that the wiring loom runs in. I removed the cover from the rear where the tilelights are and put my hand in to find about a litre of water in there (only on the left side) I had to remove the bumberette and pull the plaster plug out to let it out. Where is this stuff coming from?

sounds like one of your rear sliding windows is leaking...
My old man's did similar, but we caught it early in the piece

Water can also enter from the pleniam chamber (Bellow w/screen) and make its way down to that channel. Make suer youe sill exit points for the water are not blocked as the water may be in there too.

A few places that catch you out with 80's and water getting in are:
1. When removing the factory side steps, the alloy ones that bolt to the lower sill, this leaves a hole exposed and water can get into the sill and fill the sill, then it runs up through the holes that those push in clips go into that hold the internal trimming.
2. Under the rear bumperettes, there are rectangular plastic covers that go over the cutouts in the rear lower sill. These fall out when on corrugated roads, or when the car is taken anywhere other than bitumen. This allows water to get into the rear sill and then into the side sections. When I found mine, I cleaned it all out with a sponge and chamois, and then the drivers side got sealed up with spray deadener and expandable foam for the sub box.
3. The rubber grommet around the steering shaft on the engine side of the firewall, these things were one of the intricacies that Yota built into the 80. There aren't too many that aren't split.
