Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Does anyone have anypics of their guard cuts? I'm going to try and fit 35's under my rover with little or no lift and am not really fussed about the bodywork (less to dent). I have toyota axles under there, with coil overs in the front and front coils from a rangy in the back. If the back isnt high enough, ill put the rear coils in there, and the rovers still in the build stage so I need to know how low I can get it by chopping the guards.



BTW, those are temporary shock towers so I can adjust the height once the weight is on it. I will make shock hoops once Ive got the final height. And thats not the way the top of them will be mounted. Its just so its easy to move the height

It really wasnt supposed to be that high. Those are standard rangy springs in the back, and those pics are on 35's.
Are all hybrids that high?

Oh and I am keeping the 202... for now. I want to put a rover 3.9 and auto in later on, or supercharge the 202 and then auto it.

What do you want to see?

Its a standard hilux front (I put IFS hubs on yesterday to increase the track by 3") and a fully floater FJ40 rear with a hilux head welded in for extra clearence (splines are the same). Both axles are shaved for more clearence. I have 315mm of ground clearence with severely worn BFG's measuring just above 33".

Ive now got the motor and gearbox dropped in, with a bulkhead in there so I can play around with steering.

Cool. that is what I want to build upnext time. A series Landy with Toyota diffs, engine g/box and t/case. Will be awhile off probably end of next year but after seeing/reading the article in 4 Wheel and Sort Utility and seeing this I reckon it should be a pretty good little project

Grimbo, that looks like a pretty coo rover. Im not sure im keen on the 22re, but the rest of it looks cool. My original plan was for a springover, then it got transferred to coils up front and leaves up back, then the leaves were below the level of the rear diffs so It was coils allround. Then I got into airbags, bought them, looked at them for a bit, decided there was too much work involved with putting them in, put them on the shelf, and now im back at the coil stage.

Im also in debate of the steering box. Right now im using a patrol box

Its done and in. All I have to do now is to fab the panhard rod for the front. Im either cutting down a patrol one or cutting down a commodore one.

Have you looked at using a Defender/Rangie one? It comes with the chassis mount.

I dont already have one. They both need modifying so I can keep the angle of the panhard close to or the same as the draglink.

The stage 1 looks really good. I might cut mine like that, but maybe more out of the front as I dont need the lights there.

Heres a pic of the patrol box. None of the installation as I didnt take any, but its fairly straight foward.

It could go further back with leaves, but the coilover wont alow it to go back anymore. Im starting to think I really shoulda just done a spring ober. Woulda been much easier.



I can get more detailed ones as I totally forgot I was supposed to be getting some for here. I was just taking some to explain what I needed for a draglink.

What about using a LandRover power steering box? These ones are inboard of the chassis which may clear your coil over tower with the link to the steering column. You can also then use a Defender steering assembly in the series firewall and link it directly to the PAS box using a Rover link. Another option may be the Toyota Hilux (Minitruck) PAS box, which I think may have the arm facing backwards instead of forwards like the Patrol unit. You'll probably still have problems running the link from it to the steering column.

A landrover one was throughly looked for and I could only find one 4 bolt one, and it was $500 . I have a surf one with the pitman facing backwards, and I couldnt get the box back far enough, so used the patrol one.

Patrol ones in there for good now anyway. Shouldnt cost much to get a steering column adapter made for my commodore steering column.

Are you using a late model column with tilt & reach adjustment?

No, its just one out of a VL commodore.

Just a bit of an update on my project if anyones interested. I adapted my surf master onto the rover pedal box today. I would have liked to have shortened the shaft, but I didnt know how to get it out.
