So I've just made a dodgy snorkel for the 45s cruiser and want to know how do i make sure its water proof before i end up in the water.

Its not going to be over bonnet water ( i hope ) but still want to know how much i can trust it.

Cheers Nick

block it and hear if any air is being sucked through just make sure the thing you block it with is not going to get sucked into the engine.
Faling that take it to the beach

If you restrict the snorkel by covering it with your hand or whatever, you will be able to hear the air being sucked in thru any leaks there may be.

EDIT: Dang 5seconds earlier and i woulda been first in hehe

When i block my snorkle, the lid of my airbox (HJ75) caves in and air gets sucked in around the wing nut on the top, and maybe a little around the snorkle/airbox connecter.

I assume given this much vacuum is achieved, my snorkle is pretty water tight?

Undo Where the air intake joins the engine
and hold it as high as possible.
Then fill the sucker with water,
if it cant get out,it cant get it.
Make sure to tip out water before
re-attaching air intake.

Stick a plastic bag over the intake of the snorkel and it should stall the engine. If it doesn't you should still hear the air leak!

iv always just taken the snorkel head off and used my hand....

works a treat, gives good suction and also not much chance of being sucked in

Just because the engine stalls when you block the end of the snorkel, doesn't mean its water tight. It just shows its not getting enough air to run.
meiamaro, has the right idear. block the bottom and fill with water. If it dribbles any where, than its not water tight. ;)

Or... a more fun way,.... Park it in a big puddle with the top of the snorkel above the water and see if any water get in, say after an hour.
