GQ 1997 RX 2.8TD 5spd, turbo timer, air, pwr steer, obly done 103k, very good condition and they want $17000
had a drive and it drives pretty nice, it looks very good as well, with nice wheels and colour coded flares etc.
What are your thoughts?

$17000 for a 2.8 GQ......................................No I don't think it is a good buy at all. Far from it. I would say the opposite.

even with only 103k on the clock?

for that sort of coin you could be looking at GU's and 80 series toy.
Km's work out to not much use at all, when looking check interior and the like to make sure it looks like the wear is apropriate.
I think the generaly its better to go for a 4.2l than the 2.8. Gq's are big beast's

That would be a lousy buy.

And the survey says.....
Bum Bowwwwwwwww
I wouldn't be paying that much for a 2.8 lt GQ. As has been mentioned you could get a GU for a similar price. HOwever this specimen might be really clean and perfect for what you want... IMHO its over priced for what it is...

it honestly think i would have trouble selling my 2.8 gu for that much

As stated above I can give MANY examples of 1998 or 1999 GU 2.8ltr GU patrols going for between $15000 to $18000
My personal opinion is do not bu this rip off.

At that price he didn't see you coming, he sent for you.
Even a 4.2 turbo GQ in good condition would be less

Mate I'll sell (as would many others on here) my GQ intercooled TD42T with diesel pump mods, adjustable boost controller (currently running 15 psi), cargo barrier, draws, arb winch bar, 2 xiPF 900's and 2 x cibie super oscars, blah blah blah for less than that as would many others mate.
A 10yr old GQ (very close to t) with 100,000kms on the clock.....................you do the math mate
Average of 200kms per week.......................this does not include the trips, etc..................your decision mate

ive just spent the last few weeks/months looking and i saw great 2.8turbos for round the 8-10k mark pending on wot options, for 14k i had lined up a dx 97 4.2d 140,000ks...but wouldnt let me test drive as it was too much rain that day:)
ended up buying a better rig anyways.
i would be looking at another option.

trading post, plenty of cheap GQ's I got a TD42 short, immaculate condition, always serviced one owner, but with 314K for only $4250 in SA
For 10 grand you could gte a LWB TD42 with probly around 200k on it, then spend the rest modding it. Keep in mind these engines are good for around 550k if treated right.
As said, you could get a GU for that coin

I have been using redbook as a guide for some things lately. And have decided its mostly full of crap. Price are no where near what things are actually selling for.

where does redbook get there price info from?
when i filled in the transfer papers for my new car the other week I was thinking that by being "optimistic" with my purchase price to save on stamp duty, that i could be doing myself out of insurance money if something were to happen?

IMy old neighbour in shitney, was asked for a copy of the info given to RTA in shitney when he wrote off his car, what he paid in stamp duty on, is all they paid him. he lost $5k. undervalued his statement to RTA..
but i think you would be very very unlucky to be done for it.

Agreed, but in my experience, vehicle sale prices are usually cheaper than redbooks private sale price.
But it does give you ball park ...
