Outer Limits 4x4 Board

giday looking at getting a 87 surf (petrol 2.sumthing) the engine is rooted coz the guy ran it with out an air cleaner i was wondering wot types of motors just bolt straight in with very little work as i'm a student i don't have the time to do much in the way of swapping mounts etc any help would be great

what series motor is it?

i suspect it could be Y series in which case the biggest y series was a 2.2 afaik. later ones had EFI.

i hear that 350 chevs bolt straight in dont have to engineer or anything

i really think you should do this for the ease of this
also herd you can do the whole swap with a 10mm spanner now that makes the swap even easer

serious though i would just swap it with a reco

i think it is its rooted it only runs on 3 the guy reacons its head gasket but i think it could be the rings gone or barrel stuffed as he was 4wdin with no aircleaner just the intake to the carbie so it would have sucked a heap of shit in. is there any other make of motor not just toyota that would bolt straight on to the gear box with may be a bell housing swap?

i wouldn't mind that just having a problem wif funds as i'm currently at uni so a sweet az donk like that would cost me too much damit

If its a Y series you are in luck as a brand new engine will set you back anything from 1000 to 1600 dollars from sump to rocker cover.
I have seen them for 1200 and was talking to 4sum4 and he reckons somewhere on the web you can get them from 1000. I think its a 14mm not a 10mm socket thought.

i was thinking more along the lines of a second hand motor ae can get them here in NZ for less than $500 do any of the holden motors bolt straight in or even some of the motors out of the toyota car range?

At least being in NZ you should have plenty of lanolin around to help slip the new donk in. I do believe but the velcro gloves may hinder your progress doing the change but.

with that sort of money your better off sticking to a reco or 2nd import motor. any motor swap will require certs etc which means the motor will need to be free!

i'm turning this truck into an offroader only so a cert wont be an isue. as for the velcro gloves they won't be a prob as we've developed a new method its called over sized gumboots lol thats one we learnt off you ozzie guys

hey, any of the cressida or supra motors will bolt straight in, ie the 5M, 7M, or 7MGTE.
5M can be had pretty cheap and the electrics for the efi are pretty easy.
gives a bit more grunt, efi.

you will just need to use the 5M bellhousing to bolt to g/box and the mounts bolt straight up.
