Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi there just a message to those like me (on a budget). I live in New Zealand and have been looking around for a snorkel all over the country. I finally found one and it would cost me a mear $480 not fitted , so i put my thinkin cap on and got to work.... I took off the passenger front guard (where the air intake is, 1992 SWB fuel injected 16v vitara) and took all the platic pipes out and bought a peice of 64mm diameter flexi pipe that was one meter long and some hose clips to suit all up cost $30 i then attached the end of the pipe to the peice of pipe in the engine bay that goes into the guard. After that i got a hole saw and drilled a hole in the side of the passenger footwell (next to the heater unit) and put the other end of the pipe through the hole and up behind the dash board so the pipe came up the left hand side of the glove box ( take the glove box out it makes it lots easier , one screw ) and go around and silicone (gunk) up all the joins and where the pipe goes through the hole you drilled and there you have it a cheap snorkel ($30) and it sounds really cool when you floor the engine

Have heard of this done but apparentaly can get a bit smelly? BUt maybe not.

Certinly a cheap way to do it though

yea alot of people put it through the firewall but i wanted to avoid a certifictation ($300 unesscary dollars) so i did it this way....yep cheap....not to smelly...open the window

How much induction noise do you get ? I wonder how much more dust will be pulled into the cabin area if any .. I also imagine it may make your heater rather ineffective

a little noise...it kinda sounds cool no dust really because its behine the dash out of site and the heater works fine

Umm, I'mm pretty sure it is illegal.

nope i can get away with it (im in nz) you guys have real strict rules, fumes...not really very bad, backfire! it would have to come through a paper filter and like 2m of tubing all the way into the cabin....conisering ive never had a back fire no matter what i dont think its going to suddly start backfiring because i added some hose on could be wrong tho

The idea as all good ricers know to maximise performance is to draw in cold air hence their love of cold air intakes. Hot air costs power and your intake now has a nice source of prewarmed air when you have the heater cranked up

yea i would if i lived in the heat where you guys do....not where i live far too cold
