Air Locker Problems

I have a couple of problems with one of my ARB lockers.

1. At times it won't lock. You can hear the air escaping through the diff breather valve (no brainer there). The strange thing is that this is not constant. Sometimes it works and sometimes is don't. Took the diff out, connected to air and no air leak. Hmmm

2. The locker seems to not fully disengage. With no air you can fill the axle left hand side "bumping" as you rotate it (sort of like clunk clunk clunk - like it is jumping over the edge of teeth).

3. "Clicking noise coming from the diff (not unlike buggered CV's) from time to time which is most noticeable when cornering, under load.

4. When accelerating from stop, can here 3 to 4 clicks (same sound as buggered CV's). This is most noticeable when the vehicle is loaded and/or pulling a trailer.

I have pull the diff out and cannot see any obvious damage. There seems to be around 1mm of back lash (pinon will move 1mm before the crown wheel.

Anyone???????????

Sounds to me like it has a broken cross pin.

Cross shaft or cross shaft retaining pin?

Tiny, if I bring it in, how much for you to check it out for me?? (first time I've played with lockers).

Ended up taking the diff (locker in the carrier) to ARB. After a couple of days they said they could find nothing wrong, cleaned it up and put in new oring (after all the other had been in there for 4 1/2 years).

So I still have my problems and can only think wheel bearings, uni joints or springs that are so buggered they are wrapping all the time. Still does not explain the air leaking from the diff breather form time to time :?

Next time jump into the vehicle in the morning, fire up the compressor and engage the diff before you have rolled anywhere.
Take note if the compressor runs on without shutting off.
If it did, then turn off the diff and drive for 5 K's or more and try the diff again.
Did this correct it?
