Does anybody know what's involved in converting a RH drive '75 40 series Cruiser to LH drive? It's a stock 2F petrol, with stock 4 speed gearbox and transfer.

Any info would be much appreciated.

pedal set....

you can fab all the rest. ( you can fab the pedal set aswell, in fact it may bolt in that i think of it...)

the steering box you can use one out of a GM truck, there are some US based power steer conversion pages that would help you on that subject.

you can reuse the column,
you can reuse simply swap the glovebox and dash, weld some new tabs, and cut and shut the bottom bit where the coumn goes.

you may need the LHD heater box and piping because its on the opposite side, but you can also fab that up :)

OR, get a trashed fj40 dash and firewall. Easy cut and shut.

wireing is a piece of cake.

I have done a RHD conversion on poissibly the WORSE possibe car to do it on, and a cruiser is possibly one the easyest.

Cheers,
Jes

Thanks Jess.

I was thinking about getting a fibreglass tub, the guys at East Coast Fibreglass in Noosa will do a left hand drive version for me.

Not sure if that's the way I want to go because there's no rust in this body and the fibreglass tub is worth a bit.

You may have problems registering a vehicle that was Australian delivered as right hand drive after you've converted it to LHD.

A vehicle over 30 years of age that is imported LHD can be registered LHD.

A vehicle that has been Australian delivered and presumably registered at some stage RHD may not be allowed to be registered LHD for use on our roads.

You'd want to check that first. If you're looking to export it to the US to try and make a buck, do a LOT of research first. Original cars are worth good money in the US, cut and shut stuff is usually a fraction of this.

As far as the conversion process itself is concerened a 40 series would have to be the easiest thing to convert.

Thanks James, but the vehicle is destined for a South Pacific Island - not to be registered for Aus.

Is it possible to buy a steel firewall, heater, dash etc. from the States? Does anyone know of any web sites? I've searched and haven't come up with much.

Thanks for the reply beanz - I was only on that site the other day and didn't see that stuff.

Jeebus... that's $5.5K AUD not including shipping, handling, import duty, insurance...

The fibreglass one is a little less, but would probably come around to the same price as what I can get from FRP or OzEast.

I think I might get handy with an oxy and mig!

Hi, any and all info you might need should be able to be found on this forum : IH8mud.com

It's US based so you will be able to find any LHD parts through here.

Lup :)
