Machining Head

Should I machine the head or not?
The head gasket blew out between 1 and 2.
The head is 5 years old and off a 2f
Its cast iron and not warped
There is a very fine rough spot where It blew
Can I get away with that blue shit in a spray can
Or am I just setting myself up to do the job again?

for the sake of the $70 it costs to get a head checked and machined its not worth the fucking around mate, hylomar spray is great but i would reccomend atleast getting the head checked and see what the head joint reccomends.

good on you for not telling us mac.
just as we should support and plug those who give good service, so should we be able to say where we have found the opposite. it's only fair and not slander if it's true..
besides, it may save some poor bugger some heartache and thousands in cash to know where not to go.
i know of a place in brisvegas that only stocks landcruiser parts that is fantastic for parts supply but don't go near their workshop
i mean really, who doesn't put a new thermostat in a motor that's been on the shelf for god knows how long

I presume you ran a straight edge across the top of your block?

how highly do you reccommend them. the diesel patrol i bought had head work done, head planed, etc. but started blowing gas into the coolant. I ll do an autopsy on monday, but i will want to get the head checked b4 reinstalling it, just to be safe
Cheers

Yep.
It was OK not sweet but OK.
I bought a stone that was flat (not easy to find) and ran it across the block & head in even strokes and then used a can of that hylomar (the blue shit) stuff.
Lets see how many Ks I get out of it

the good thing about cast iron heads is that they're very strong and a quick skim off the face wont worry em one bit, unlike some alloy heads which aren't quite as resilient.
i know of plent of decent places in brisbane! but not in sydney.... but really if your just looking for a quick cheap freshen up of the head you dont need to pay the earth or need to give it to the most expensive workshop

thanks stool, i spoke with the young fella i bought the patrol off, a he is going to help me claim warrany on the head job, as he paid for it, etc.
Just have to be carefull the mechanic doenst wanna charge me for all the work after its all done, as there is always something that needed to be done.
I hate mechanics, Ill double check the head torque tommorow and then wait and see what happens.
Thanks again, and end of high jack

Cool, so you just had a quick head job then. Mine is going to last for a few weeks by the sounds of it.
Ahhhhh, well.
