Weird CD player problem

Hi All,

Kenwood CD player 6 yrs in a RR. Playing through a pair of JBL's, has 12.6v through both power inputs, lights up, CD plays but no sound. Same with tuner. Thinking it's stuffed I bought another one yesterday. Same deal.

Got the new one to work by disconnecting speakers, then reconnecting. Of course the old one also worked when put back in.

Back to no sound this morning. All settings correct, has plenty of juice etc.

Any ideas?

TIA, DL

If it's not a speaker impedance mismatch causing an overload in the amp I'd guess you have an intermittent short in your speaker wiring - causing an impedance mismatch.

Or not - I'm not a hi-fi expert...

Thanks Scott,

The JBL's are reasonably new and are only 2 ohms impedence. I'll try new wiring between the player and speakers.

So now you have two cd systems, what are you going to do with the spare one?

2OHMS is not too good for the deck amp unless this is connected to a proper 2 ohn stable amp.

Thanks Scott et al.

Yep I have a spare brand new Kenwood KDC-MP333 that cost me $148 in the Supercheap Bathurst week sale. Plays MP3's and WMA's (whatever they are). I'll either sell it at cost or hang on to it. I'm not going to pack and post at that rate. They're $220 at JB at the moment.

Yes RR has dual battery set up but the player is not wired directly to one battery. I'm using a $99 Jaycar split charger that seems to be working very well. RR has 350 Chev, C9 auto, LT95 TC with a Bosch 55 amp alternator which is big enough at the moment. Am running twin thermo fans but no winch. Jaycar unit will cope with 70 amp alt according to specs. Happy now I have music, lights, wipers and ciggy lighter all at the same time and a spare constantly fully charged battery in the car.

Thanks guys, DL
