Hilux Manual Locking Hubs

Hey guys, just took possession of my new 2002 hilux 4x4 dual cab ! Gotta say im totally in love with it, seems like its gonna be a really great car!
My question is this, we took her up to Fraser island on the weekend and when i got out to lock the hubs, they were already locked! So that basically means Ive been driving around with the front diff and drive shafts turning right? Should I notice any difference driving on the road now that they are in the free position? I cant see any noticeable difference at all! Would have thought perhaps slightly better economy. Dad reckons it feels "freeer", I think he's smoking crack
Ideas?
Cheers
