Hi guys,
have just taken delivery of a 05 Patrol. So far its been great to use just a little bigger than my old car. The standard suspension came up as soft in a pre purchase inspection. I want to retain road manners but my old Jackaroo had a 4in lift and drove well so surely this is feasible in a patrol. Aside fom coils and shocks what "extras" need to be taken into account when going 4in? Or am I better off with standard 2in from OME or Ironman etc? The car is a GUIV, 3.0 manual. Thanks in advance.

When going with a 4" lift, im assumeing you mean spring lift.
you will need to take into consideration.
Panhards
Brake lines
upper and trailing arms possibly
castor either bushes, plates or drop arms by 3rds or someone similar
a 4" lift kit will be round the 2k+ mark

you would ask yourself why you need a 4inch lift, when you can fit 36's with a 2-3inch lift.

I'd ask why does everything have to be about need, what about want?
Seriously though, I just installed a 4in lift kit and it cost over $2k. I don't regret it for a second but if I were on a budget (and we all are to some degree), maybe 3in would have been better. Like Bogged said, you don't need to have a big lift to fit big rubber, low and stable trucks are where it's at.
To answer your question, 4in is where things start to get fiddly i.e castor correction issues, longer panhards, brake lines and diff breathers need extending, the load sensing valve needs raising and sway bars need to be lengthened. All these problems are easy to overcome (with cash of course)

my opinion when going 4". drop box's are better rather than caster plates or bushes. keep all the load going thru the coils & shocks rather than up the arms

you cant fit 36s without having to trim guards. i was running 35inch pedes with 2 inch body lift and nearly 3 inch suspension, the tyres werew getting cut on the rear guards and i have chopped the lower quarters off. ive now got 4 inch coils and they still touch occasionally at full flex. you might get away with it with a super stiff coil. but who wants coils like that

you talking about a GQ or GU, i run 35's no problems with just an OME 2" lift.
Also the guy in question just how big a tyre do you want to run, OME is far superiour than iron man suspension.
