Diesel Engine Reconditioning in Brisbane

Hi All,

1) I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good diesel rebuilder to overhaul my 2.4L Turbo diesel Bundera. I am located near the CBD in Brisbane but I am willing to travel for good service.

The major problem I have is oil consumption. I cannot see any excessive smoke nor is there any oily residue on the exhaust pipe (though there is plenty of soot). The rear main seal is leaking and so is the rocker cover. I probably could just get the seals done but I would really like the peace of mind that the internals of my engine are refreshed.

The car is in fairly good nick and has done 285 000. The only things replaced on the engine have been the front main seal and the water pump.

2) How much should a recondition cost all up? I was quoted about $3500 from Cobby's Diesel Rebuilding in Virginia, but he hinted that it could be more and wasn't really specific about what work would be done.

I don't really want to spend more that 4K, but I'd like the bearings, seals, rings, injectors, turbo seals & bearings replaced + have the pump tuned. am I dreaming?

3) Should I swap the head for a 3L or other better designed head? I was informed by the above mechanic that if my stock head is o.k that it will be fine to be re-used...

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

REDLANDS ENGINES 3390 3566 reconditioned my engine but that is all they do I think. I used another mechanic to remove and install. These guys do the job properly so if something needs doing they will want to do it properly, so they may not be what you are looking for it if you want/need to stick to a budget.

Good Luck
