SAS hilux help needed...

Ok I've decided to go ahead and do a solid axle swap on my IFS lux. I will need to get someone to remove the IFS and refit the new solid axle so if it is to be an affordable exercise I need to source all the bits necessary myself and have them ready for the workshop.

I'm not looking for any extra lift BTW. I love the flex out of my rear springs and would like to match that up front.

The problem is I'm not exactly sure what I need to get As far as I know I need:

1. A solid front axle. OK, what year models are suitable? What is the best? Is there a particular year model that is "the best ever"??? I think I will be getting one off a mate but will keep my eyes open for something cheap or extra good....
2. I want to put IFS rear springs up front. Are early 4runner rear springs ok?
3. Spring hangers. Cheapest option???
4. Wheel spacers to match the wider track of the IFS rear.
5. Crossover steering setup. Will I retain my IFS power steering box??? Where to buy steering and how much??

This is about where I run out of ideas. Over the next few months I want to get all the bits together to do the job. Can anyone who has been down this road help me out with what is needed???

Cheers.

You won't get a leaf sprung SAS approved in QLD, a bundy front yes and will cost around $6k engineered.

i suggest jump on the phone to superior engineering, or try and PM bubs/ruff/daisy for home professionals as a good starting point.

as far as your list of points goes:
1. as stated, to get an SAS engineered/approved in QLD u will need to go coils, so u want a rolling bundera chassis so u can use as much of the factory mounts and gear as possible to make mr engineer happy.
2.
3. both of these are cancelled out by number 1.
4. use your current IFS hubs, no need for illegal wheelspacers.
5. superior, overkill, ORI, or import from the states.

Use the search function as there is a fair bit of information floating about on this particulary modification... as a general idea, in victoria cheezy racing charges ~$5k, and hales12353 (something of the like) has performed this on his own and has an excellent build up thread on the toytasurf forum, PM him for details.

People currently doing/have done this that i know of:
- hales12353
- nemesis
- HG
- 4sum4
- teamkneck (overkill engineering)
- professor (dobbin engineering)
- cheezy4x4 (cheezy himself)
... that is all i can think of.
