I have being saving a set of locked GQ diffs for a buggy, but talking last nigh I am now considereing getting hold of an old zook and throwing the GQs under it, coilovers etc, bushed links etc so it can be reistered and run in willowglen but be serious enough also that is will be WEROCKable

Thoughts and ideas would be good

cheers

Get in contact with CHOPZUKI - He had a tin top on GQ's with 3links + panhard F & R. Thing it ended up on 44's before he sold it. Worked well.

hmm, 37s will prolly be the go, run them in werock, use the 35s I have for testing etc until I iron out any bugs

what rations should I run?, with rockhoppers will the 4.1s be ok with 37s or will 4.88s be a must, will the transfer hold up? do I bother with the zook case or do I look at something else from the get go?

4 link rear, bushed for rego, front? 3 link panhard set up?

will the 1.3 be ok, what injection works, turbo?

coils and shocks or strait to coil overs / airshocks? who has got airshocks through engineeres? I presume a limiting strap of sort will be required for rego with the airshoks?

who is it runs the zook with the portals (user name on here??) what is running in there engine, transfer etc diff rations?

is there an auto worth looking at? will it drain to much power, how id the stadard clutch with 37s?

will a tiny bloke like me have any real issues fitting into a zook?

do a have a roof at all or do I just leave a windscreen and cage the rest?

If you're only going to run 37's i think you'd be better off with Hilux diffs fitted with chromo CV's/axles. Heaps more clearance.

Saying that you could shave the crapper out of the GQ diffs and have a similar result.

From memory the stub axle end of the GQ CV isn't much bigger than the Hilux. Its only the bell thats bigger on the GQ.

Don't think you'd get an airshock past engineers for road use as they are designed for low speed and fade quite quickly.

If you ran a 1.6EFI donk with induction into 3 speed auto, sierra transfer with gears and rear disconnect into your GQ's or Hilux diffs you'd have a cool zook.

Built with coilovers and done the right way you'd end up with a vehicle that could be used for WEROCK/OZROCK, trials events and winch events.

I presume you're looking at a LWB?

Would look at some serious gearing to save load on drivetrain components. Maybe series 4's in the transfer and 4.8 diffs.

You do realize that this would cost more than a moon buggy to build?

thanks jim, good input,

after a little more consideration the plans at this stage are

commo v6
t400 auto
GQ locke diffs
GQ tranfer?? suggestion here, will a rangie transfer work, ie is there adaptors out there, anybony had anyu real luck with digs with the transfer the right way around?
front 3 link suspension at this stage, with coils and shcoks for the meantime
rear, bushed tri 4 linkl set up, coil overs
zook chassis, 104-112" wheel base
37s for the long term, testing on some 35s I have here lol
uted with full exo and will set up with some rock doors I think

Front digs with LT230 transfer pointed the right way, seems to work OK. Rob can do it in the purple buggy at OZROCK without proper cutting brakes.

Marks sell a T400 to LT230 adaptor.

Why not look at putting the coilovers in the front? more wheel travel in the front will make the car more predictable to drive. Also easier to change the front suspension when there's nothing in the way (eg engine) as opposed to the rear thats easy to change at any stage.

Gear ratio with T400 (2.5 first) + LT230 (3.5 low) GQ's (4.6) = final drive 35.87:1

this is true, the coilovers are easy, 14" should be fine, either make a set up myself that a rancho will slip in, or talk to my "boyz" and run a bilstein set up.

rangie looks like the goods, was also considdereing a little pnumatic ram to control the cutting brakes for the rear
