Bars Leak

Had a slight leak in Roza's radiator and used Bars Leak to fix it. Did the job however you wouldn't beleive how much higher the temp guage climbed. At least a third of the temp scale. I tried several radiator cleaners and conditioners but nothing helped or got the temp reading down.

I had solutions, a recore at around $360.00 or a good recond second hand radiator from Suzi 4 at $210.00. I had a good look at the recond one and went that way. It was in good shape, clean and nicely painted. :D In and working well with the temp gauge reading now lower than before. :D :D :D

The radiator I took out seemed to have a grey coating over everything inside. Could have been the Bars Leak and maybe it acted like an insulator stopping the transfere of heat. I used a Nulon flush for 30 mins on the new system. :) :) :) Should be clean now for my long trip.

Leon,

I have repaired my radiator twice now. The radiator is all brass construction and solders very well. I used a very large soldering iron.

My top tank had a crack in it and was soldered up by a radiator repair joint under warranty. That was about ten months ago and I haven't had a problem since.

By the way - what temp does the feroza show at operating temprature?
My gauge sits pointing straight up , covering the symbol behind it. Is this normal? It never climbs any higher so I havent worried about it.

Roza's temp guage usually sits at about 1/3rd of the scale. After the bars leak it went to the start of the 3 bars.
