Just preparing for the evenutal exo cage. Don't want to use DOM ($$$) but want to keep it as light as possible.

don't skimp on a cage. get the right stuff and do it properly. I'm sure someone will pipe (pun intended) up soon about the negatives of using pipe against tube

You're right about not skimping but I've heard good reports about the shed 40 that I was reffering to so I wanted to see what it was all about.

Thanks for the link Wendle

Is DOM the only way to go? What dimensions?

Sched 40 is pretty tough ... if you are buildiing a race car .. go DOM .. if you want to stand up to low speed rollovers etc I cannot see anything wrong with sched 40 at all ..
Have used it heaps when I worked for my dad (bulk LP gas installs) was often bent to 90 degress or so never had any splits etc ..

Hell I have seen what was left of a 75 after rolling at 100 or so .. was fawked up .. but the 2 x 3 Rhs pipe carrier was still standing .. A bit bent but allowed the driver to walk away from the accident .. (and the roof of a 75 is not all that tough)
