shortening GQ rear diff

hey, i am looking at shortening a GQ rear diff housing to match the width of my hilux diffs.
Has anyone else done this, or have any helpfull info.
i was thinking of using the GQ centre but using either hilux or landcrusier outers and brakes, so i don't have to set up transfer case handbrake.
would the hilux axle splines match up to the GQ centre?
if i need custom axles i think i will go with cruiser hubs so i get full floating rear end. Anyone know what a set of custom axles would set me back?
thanks
steve

FIrstly I have a GQ shorty so I am nissan biased but...
Have you looked into just beefing up your lux diffs with aftermarket goodies. I would imagine this would be far less fidley and time consuming.
The benefit of having a gq diffs under something is their strength and width. Once you cancel out the width part you are left with strength. Many will tell you here that toyota gear can be made fairly strong (stronger than nissan ??), while I don't know exactly what you would need - I would imagine it would be much easier than shortening a GQ housing.....

Maybe you want a G60 rear diff. It's an H260, just as beefy as in a GQ. I have two here, one open, one welded. Dunno what offset you need though.

Why cant you just use the extra width? Its only like 2" isnt it?

I thought it'd be more like 2" per side... which makes it cooler
Hypo ran GQ's under his lux

its to be registered in qld, so your not allowed to increase track width.

got a few mates with v8 hiluxs that have put a crusier pumkin in the centre of hilux tubes and hilux axles. works fairly well.

I rekon cutting an 80 axle down to match the hilux offset would be even better
that way you get the stronger hubs and better brakes.

On vehicles with solid axles you are permitted to increase the track width by a maxiumum of 50mm.

G60 Rear track is 1404mm
So diff width would be about 1450mm.
