Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Just wanting to know the plusses and minuses of a 2.8 hilux(live axle) and 80 series diesel for a daily driver/tourer/weekend fun machine? Ie the costs of general servicing, economy,drivability etc etc. i know people here have had both and would like their opinons.
Im looking at maybe getting one of these two and would like as much info before I committ to getting one.

if youre into shiney type 4wding the 80s are fine but if you want to do some harder stuff stick with the hilux..panels etc for the 80s are bloody expensive...

I have owned a hilux and I have now since upgraded to an 80 series
there got more power more roomer and more smother to drive + coil springs flex better

the hilux will probly be cheaper and easier to get realy capable plus not as many panels to damage.

where as the 80 is a awsome truck heeps of grunt very comfy and good suspension but be prepared to pay big $$ when u break it.

thtas what I kind of expected, $$$$ for the 80, and cheaper for the lux. I would imagine the lux would be cheaper to run-fuel, servicing though?
Looking around, to pickup a hilux dualcab for an ok price without a zillion km's isn't that easy to do

80 wins hands down.
The 80 will cost more to run, its about twice the size of a hilux so of cause its going to cost more.

I have a 80 and my brother has a hilux.
My brother is always asking to borrow the 80 to go away with.
It's much better both on and off the road and dosn't shake the sh1te out of you.
And he dosn't use much less fuel than me when we go out together either as he is always flogging the sh1te out of his to keep up.
But most parts do cost alot more.

I have both..... 80 is a standard 1HZ, my wifes daily driver and our tourer/ tow car and the hilux is for the hard stuff but was retired as a tourer due to lack of comfort.

The 80 is good on fuel it has 365,000 kms on the clock and does around 500 kms a week i just had the pump and injectors done, my missus gets about 10.5 to 11.5 litres per 100kms.

I'm not trying to hang shit on you. But it's kind of a bit hard to compare those two 4by's isn't it? I mean one was designed and used as a work ute, and the other as a comfy 4by for the family. Offroad ability, both is good. They both tow well (hilux kinda...) but I mean really they're chalk and cheese arent they?

I know how different these 2 trucks are, but looking at each of them and seeing if it's worth getting either of them to suit my needs. I would sacrific comfort for cheaper running costs, or repairs. If theres not much between them both for price, ability,costs of servicing them the 80 will win.

I too have had both.

IMO the 80 shits all over the hilux in power, comfort and space.

However the cruiser holds 10ltr of oil compared to the hiluxs 5-6ltr(cant remember now ) I used ryco filters on the lux and TJMC on the cruiser, Also used ryco air filter and again OE on the 80. So for me servicing is alot more expensive for the 80 then the hilux but I feel its worth it.

You have to decide on what your after in your truck, comfort, power, size.

Hard to compare the 2 really, but no matter what you buy let it be DIESEL

Try to go for a ride in both over some rocky tracks.
After that you will be looking for an 80 series.
