Outer Limits 4x4 Board

hey guys

I lifted up my MU last weekend and it appears my rear shocks didnt quite like it lol... (could be pure coincidence.. but i doubt it!)

can anyone recommend some decent ones to get to replace the farked ones? or anyone have any good 2nd hand ones laying around they dont need?

im needing them ASAP.. wanting to replace before mud bulls :(

do i HAVE to get MU ones? or can i use rodeo etc?

any help is very appreciated...

Need a bit more info.
What do you mean the rear shocks didnt like it?
Is your rear end coil or leaf springs?
How did you lift it?
You might need longer shockers too if your lift created more wheel travel.

Take the shocks out and jack the car up from the chassis so the wheels are at full droop.

Measure the distance between each shocker attachment point from top to bottom and add another 20mm. (shock fully extended length) Dont add any if its coil springs.

Now drive a back wheel up a ramp until the bump stop is compressed well.
Measure that distance again and deduct 20mm (shock closed length)

What you need is for the shocker to be able to have a bit more travel left in both directions after the wheels cannot travel any further.
If your's is coil rear springs then you dont want the shocker to extend more than the coil allows or the coil could fall out when the back axle is fully flexing.

Being a "miss" you could always take it to a suspension shop and sweet talk them into doing this for you on the premise you might buy some shocks.

I dont know if Rodeo or Jackeroo shocks are the right length for an MU it would probably pay you get it checked out since you've lifted it.

41mm bore gas shocks would be plenty for an MU. Pedders are as good as any and reasonabley priced.

I took the Old man emu's off the rear of my Rodeo and put them on my MU. Sweet as. Fronts are Monroe gas from the same rodeo. Not as good as the OME but do the job. BTW just had the rear jacked up 2in and the shocks still work fine.

A body lift doesn't affect wheel travel so just go standard shocks.

You could probably get some cheap from a wreckers off a leaf sprung Jackaroo or a Rodeo of the same era.

I sold all 4 Pedders gas shocks off my Rodeo for $120 and they were in good nick so that might give you an indication of what 2nd hand shocks are worth for it.

Old Man Emu Nitrocharger shocks for Rodeo/Jackaroo/Frontera are $139 each in thier 2005 catalogue. Dont have the 2006 one.
