Hi All, here's my latest question about my 60 series fixer upper...
Found an LSD at the wreckers with the same ratio (4.11) low k's if the odo is to be believed...
I'd like your opinions on what it's worth ( Me to remove from the wreck)
I've really got no idea what would be a reasonable price for it...
over to you :<0

a wrecker would probably charge about $400 for the whole diff assembly

so for the centre and third member id rekon about $200, since it would be hard to sell the rest complete without it.

You're aware that toyota LSD's are useless? I wouldnt waste money or time swapping for a lsd because it will probably fail in no time. I'd be putting the money towards a locker instead. Hang out for a cheap second hand air locker or buy a cheaper Lokka from 4wd systems, each has its advantages/disadvantages. Either way it will be better than a Toyota LSD.

Agreed,
My cruiser used to have an LSD center and when it dropped the pinion bearing i thought bugger getting another LSD cause it was useless. I bought the front diff out of an 88 model HJ60 (i know its an open center but to be honest cant tell the difference between this and the LSD), i figured the front has done less work then the rear, and my theory was right, had bugger all wear on it, no noises. Got the whole front assembly for $300. That will do till i get an air locker!

No, but thanks for the advice ! I was thinking that it would be a cheap alternative, not as good as an Air Locker but better than an open diff.
If they're completely crap then I'll pass on it...
In the meantime I'll find out if I really need one
cheers,

toyota lsd's arent the best in terms of longevity, but when they work they work fine

you can shim them up and they will be just as good as a locker, for how long i dont know.

A mate of mine had his 80 series rear re-shimmed and it worked for about 6 months before it turned itself into an open diff again. I'm a Toyota fan but they are very lacking in the LSD game compared to Nissan. I reckon locker or leave it open. Re-shimming is a waste of good money. Welded works but there are trade-offs with that too....

I thaught it would last longer than that :/

Its really puzzling that toyota hasnt done something to improve thier LSD. Theyve had about 20 years :S

are the new LSD's just as bad, 100series?
