I have had a brief look down this path, funnily enough the TD42T was used in an older version of the UD trucks, but they're no cheaper. I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for sure!
You might find it worth while to search in japan as these motors are dirt cheap and easy to import.
Cheers, beretts

what are you planning to do with the motor because all three motors are very different to each other.
the fd6t is a pretty old motor these days and was replaced with the fe6t which ran from the early eighties up to almost currant.
the rd8 is a very old motor and would be almost impossible to get hold of these days, it is also very large in size if you are thinking of conversion to a four wheel drive.
the fd46t is a much newer engine, 4:6 litre 4 cyl turbo that is fairly easy to come by.
there is a place in melb called "NIPPON TRUCKS", they import jap truck engs and g/boxs and have done for over 20 years so they have alot of knowlege on conversions etc.
their phone number is 03 9314 6796

we run the rd8t in our larger cranes it is a very big motor and probly wouldn't fit in a 4wd and only puts out 300hp in n/a form, u may fit it in the tray.
if your interested in truck motors for u car have a look at izuzu they have more to offer.
if u like i will take some pictures of them tomorow and post them so u can see

yeah it would be good to see a few pics of the smaller truck engines that could fit into a patrol or cruiser engine bay, as it may end up being a good conversion, with strength, and heaps of tourque,
it all came about when i was reading a thread on pirate about the cummins diesel in an 80 series,
all pics appreciated,

a 5l 4cyl td izuzu puts out between 170-190hp and is no bigger than a td42,
i think most 6cy truck motors would be to long,
will try and get photo's of truck motor on monday
