Has anyone attempted to gain a few extra kw out of these engines?

86kw and 290nm is killing me! There has to be a few hidden horses?

The Ute is just a run around for me, little to no load but I need site access within mines etc. Just a work vehicle, the Patrol is still the dedicated tourer.

What about springs? The fence palings in the rear are ridiculously firm. Has anyone successfully taken a leaf out to gain some ride comfort without loosing too much height? Remember the Ute carries little load.
I can't believe where the intercooler is mounted. Almost UNDER the front plastic bumper!

Thanks for any comments....

I gained a bit of power from a 2.5" straight through exhaust, from the turbo back, I also mounted the intercooler on top of the motor, but didn't get much improvement from the shorter pipes.
A mate of mine (Ford mechanic) suggested that the factory injector pump tune is poor to start with, and should have been done after the zaust, but I never got around to it

What about boost? Safe to run a few more? I imagine it's somewhere between 7-12psi stock? 1-3psi is usually safe!?

Dunno, I've been told the boost is already high (between 15 and 22psi, if you can believe that... )
Maybe you could just wait for the new one to come out, the 3.0 CRD is sposed to kick arse...

It crapped the clutch today. 984km old. Apparently the pressure plate "died".

No apologies or nothing from ford. Just a bring it back and we'll fix it. :bad-words: Let alone the cruise control that is the most violent thing at 110kph I have ever witnessed! Another problem yet to be "understood". It's only on it's second tank of fuel! Imagine after 150,000km offroad!!!!

It's a company vehicle so I'm stuck with it until I get a new one (2-3 years)

I'll get a boost (sic) gauge and see where it's at...

mate for years i have been a ford man through and through ,but after driving the biggest piece of dog shit most days(a new v8 ford falcon ute) i reckon they are the biggest slug boxes known to man and the klunks and groans that come from them are unbelievable. My dad used to drive a vy ute and it also was a dog box. I think ford and holden are both very low standard cars .EDIT: there warranty attitudes suck balls :bad-words:

Watch out for the gearboxes as a mechanic mate has told me they love to blow.

A mates got a 2wd one and noisy bearings.
