Hi to forum members in New Zealand.
My question is can you register modified 4wds in New Zealand?
I have a GQ with a 5link front end 6 inch lift that is engineed in NSW and I will be taking it to New Zealand next year when we move ( Wellington reagion) and wondering if I can reqister it.
Also what are the authorties like with fitting turbo chargers as well as I am planing on fitting one to my tb42.

Thanks in advance

Hi nigel, Yes you can reister modified 4wds in NZ they have to go through certification (engineering as you aussies call it i think). A few modidied 80 series and safaris come over from japan and have been registerd. I am unsure on what the regulations in bringing a personal import into NZ from aussie are but the mods you have should not make any difference as long as you go through the certification process. It may pay to call a cetifier first to be sure though, I can give you the contact number for my certifier if you would like.

The rules in Nz for modifications are a bit more leniant than over there im about to go through the certification process with my safari with 37's, 6" lift and a 5.0 V8. http://carl.outerlimits4x4.com/viewtopic.php?t=77469

If you plan on turbo charging it after you get it on the road over here you will have to get it recertitied as the power increase will be 25% over standard.

I live in wellington so once its over here ill show you round the tracks if you want.

You'll find the rules here pretty easy compared to what you deal with in Oz. My winch trucks has had all the 'normal' mods ie twin shocks, 104" wheel base, trayback conversion, 3" suspension and 2" body lift, cage, custom seats, mechanical beadlocks etc. All of which it is completely road legal with. As doddzee has said you will need to get a Low Volume Vehicle Certificate from an engineer (and not all engineers are created equal) but otherwise a piece of cake. I'm currently in the process of removing the TD42 turboed etc and fitting a VH45. I'm doing this a bit different as I've removed the body and mounted the motor so that the transfere case is in the same place. Instead of shifting the motor foward (to clear the firewall) I'm shifting the body back 4" and cutting the front of the chassis off. I've discussed all of this with my engineer and he is happy and only wants to see it when finished!
