I have a old holden starter motor and i was just wondering how many amps a starter motor draws, i think it gets higher under load doesnt it, but does anyone know how to find out how much current it draws?

Hi superg, your correct about about the amps go up according to the load being put on it.
Free wheeling, a start motor can pull as little as 5 or 6 amps but to know what the loaded current is you should try and get your hands on a clamp meter.
With a clamp meter, you can measure the amps being draw by the motor without having to tamper with the cable going to the motor.
Cheers.

You would be looking at peaking about 300 amps at first crank.
