Just picked up a 94 xtra cab sr5 for a fair price, needs a little work

the vacuum operated solenoids (well i thought it was)
that lock and unlock the hubs are stuffed and the button on the transfer lever is not operative,
whilst out at my mates place this arvo, i swapped the hoses over from each solenoid 2 engage 4wd, drove it around the paddock, and then reconnected the hoses back to their original position, and continued 2 drive around waiting for 4wd 2 disengage, but 2 no avail, is still in 4wd

could this be either a vacuum pump fault on the diesel alternator, or something that has let go in the transfer box,

would be interested 2 know, b4 i start trouble shooting

cheers

Rob

Are you talking about the device between the diff housing and the left hand axle tube?

X2.

My brother had these on his Hi-lux. Never worked from the day he bought them. Took them back to the dealer 4 or 5 times and still nothing but hassel. In the end I swapped them for manual locking hubs. He is much hjappyier as he now knows that they are either in or out before finds out teh hard way.

Don't mean to hassle but when I was doing an oil change on the weekend I noticed for the first time a device between the diff and the axle tube on the passenger side of the front diff.

I was going to post a question about it but this appears to be the same part you are talking about.

Am I correct in assuming that it is an actuator for the auto hubs :?:
