G'day,

i've got a vibrating noise in the rear of my car, when i'm travelling between about 80 to 100 km an hour. The noise seems to have started after i got my car lifted, though i'm thinking it could be related to the diff oils.

Any advice??

most likelu unis are worn, and the new angle is too much for them. grease and time may sort it out. but new unis may be needed.
I'm assumming its not a major lift causing too much angle on tailshaft?
If diff oil is too low, the new angle on the pinion could have it running with out oil on it.

Is it just a noise, or is there a vibration coming through the car too. I dont think that diff oils will be the reason, unless you have issues inside the diff too, or the oil is low. Did you adjust the pinion angle too with the lift. A bit more info aboutwhat you have done would be helpfull. Sounds like a uni just dont like the new opperation angle.

Its a '94 LWB vitara,

its had a 40mm lift with Tough Dog Products which were fitted by Opposite Lock so i'm assuming they did a decent job of it.

The diff, gearbox and transmission oil has been in their for 35 thousand k's and is due for replacement soon so thats a possibility that the diff oil is getting low, i also noticed a small stain on the filler plug which could be related. There is a slight amount of play in the driveshaft between the rear diff and the transfer case (if that means anything)

When it comes to replacing the diff oil, what is the best way of getting the oil in through the filler hole, some sort of siringe maybe ?

small amount of movement in the drive shafts is TOO MUCH

syringe will work fine or buy ya oil in 20lt lots and get a drum pump makes life soooo much easier , though dearer first off.

and get in the habit of checking ALL of your oils regularly that way youll no excactly whats going on

i went to change the diff oil only to find that the bluddy filler cap is jamed on bluddy tight,

i tried with the end of the socket head as suggested by a local mechanic, but its not comming off, and i'm worried that i will bugger the shape of the filler plug if i try to hard,

any suggestions ??

the end of a socket is the way that most people do it, but yea its always a tough job if it hasnt been done in a while. if you can get at it with a rattle gun I have found this the easiest way and least likely to damage the plug. otherwise you need a breaker bar, but it wont be easy without the car raised on a lift.

car went in for a major service at suzisport the other day they replaced all the fluids redid the uni joints and so forth, the noise seems to have gone away.

Unfortunately the problem with fixing one noise is it uncovers other noises. Theres a bit of a whine in 5th gear, i've heard it in a lot of different cars, is this normal? If not is there a way to fix it
