OK you TD5 gurus, will a ECU chipped manual TD5 powered Disco 2 out run a V6 3.8L Commodore off the line to 100KLPH? Met a guy today who swears his mate's will and does and they call it the 'Commodore Buster'

Come on....opinions please!

Don't know, I've never raced a Commodore.

I have raced my friend with a Brumby which has a Vortex turbo motor which is basically a 1.8 WRX motor (and an empty box trailer) and beat it. That was to a bit over 80km/h before backing off for the next set of lights. Both cars were similar, but the disco surprisingly made most of its gains when initially starting off and then held it for the rest of the way with the Brumby sitting not far behind.

AFAIK a stock VN/VP is around 11s 0-100. A stock disco TD5 is around 15s. So if you can get a 33% increase in power and torque by chipping a TD5 then it would be possible.

Ah, sorry. I'm chipped and intercooled.

either way, even if it gets close to the dunnydore that's a pretty impressive result for a house brick to achieve.

At Rally OZ last weekend I saw a Datsun 1200 absolutely waste a V8 commodore. The same commodore had beaten a Starion turbo the previous night.

In theory, need a little more than that to overcome the aerodynamics of the disco..

I think I know this 'fender Reddo, and it might just be possible if he is quick enough through the gears. It has about 180Kw and 520 Nm and is driven HARD regularly.

I have a customers 'fender that'll do 100 to 120 in 6 secs, in 5th gear on the flat. Doesen't sound fast, but in a 110 it is pretty good.

OOPs, I was so excited I missed the word Disco in the first line.

Even so, I think it is possible, as they fairly go when chipped etc.
You ought to have a drive, you'll be impressed what 2.5 litres can do with 20 psi rammed into it...
