Changed the head now she wont start. All she does is backfire through the carby
I have checked timing and ignition leads.

What else?

You are definately sure you have the firing order right on the leads?

Did you remove the distributor for any reason while the head was off?

Yes and there is no need to take the distibutor of on a push rod engine like the 2f. Have checked the lead twice the dizzy even has the numbers on it to match up with the cylinders. It should have worked it did last time i changed the head gasket but this time I replaced the head

Yeah I realise that. Hence why I used the term "for any reason", I dont know what other repairs you may or may not have undertaken while the head was off........so what did you do different this time?

got her running but only at half/full hand throttle but she is still backfiring might be my valve clearances just looking for the feeler gauge.

well backfiring through the carby is nearly always timing related

To help educate you lads a little more it was the valve clearance's.
If you think about it it makes sense that if the intake valve is'nt closed properly that when she fire that the explosion has to go somewhere.

So there are the 2 things that can make a engine backfire through the carby bad timing out 180 degrees and firing on the instroke or perfect timing and a little open intake valve letting the explosion ignite the fuel in the manifold.
