Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I need to run a 1/2 inch pickup in my tank due to running a low cost fuel .

Can any1 here suggest the best way to do this. Maybe putting in a pickup in the bung hole , or putting in a pickup from the top .

Its 160 litres in capacity, and the tank bottom slopes forward to where the bung is. Im not worried about cutting and welding the tank once its washed, but i dont want it to look like mozzerella cheese whilst i try to perfect it.


I really dont have an idea as to what i want to do, as i dont know where the pickup is placed in the tank, or how many baffles it has

well.....

i don't know what your vehicle is but on mine (and never again coz 4wds systems stuff is sooooooo good quality ), the pick up is on the forward drivers side corner. the pickup pipe comes in from the top on that side/corner and seems to come down to the bottom. I have tested this by having a very small amount left in the tank, and parking the truck on different angles and seeing which one the pump was still getting fuel at.

The bung on mine is on the side at the same corner, so if i was going to do it anywhere i would put it on the front side a couple of inches in

alternatively you could ring and ask them.

yeah, I know all about how good 4wd systems arent. MIne is for a MK patrol and apparently mine is the only one with diffrent mounting holes.

Ill never spend my money there again either, and always go out of way to help others not to.

I was thinking of trying to cut out the pickup from the side and try to refit a larger one.

So if i went in and and up an inch it should be ok ?

My pickup is in the middle on the bottom side, and if i remove it to drain fuel, Its a huge PITA due to the diff being an inch away. Plent of thought went it that,

man just remove the origional one and weld in teh new one.

can you get inside the tank from the sender hole? if so no welding required.
all you need is enough room to guide a piece of threaded tube into the tank with a bit of welding wire. Once you find the hole ( should be very easy for a man of your calibre ) thread the nut onto it from the outside while clamping the tube, and voila, you have a second pickup!

Thanks guys. I was thinking instead of pressurising the tank to about 10-15 psi to make it easy for the lift pump.

This should remove the need to run 1`/2 inch lines and make it easier for additional tanks.

any thoughts?

this sounds to me like a very bad idea. dont know why, just sounds like a bad idea.

I second that motion.

tanks have breathers to stop the build up of pressure on hot days so it wont work, and i would never pressurise a fuel tank, is say put in your 1/2 inch line and do it right the first time,

Yeah, I think my lift pump i strying to go on holidays, so i might have to do something quickly, after i chuck a spare one on.

Its still an option, as 15 psi isnt that much.

I might try the 1/2 inch line and then go from there.

couldnt you just fit a secondary lift pump, perhaps nearer the tank, to supplement your current lift pump?

Yeah, but no-one can seem to find a 12 volt pump that will pump vege oil.
