thanks for the reply mate. Sorry, well i got a blown head gasket so im about to spend money, what ever i end up spending. I have a 4y engine in my 4runner so i wouldnt mind something a little more powerful. I only do beach driving but i wouldnt mind something that can climb a few steep hills. I have 33" wheels, rancho shocks, and a lift kit.

cheers

as for money wise and power increase a commo V6 conversion would be my guess. not sue on an exact cost but cheaper than a V8 conversion!! but still power increase!!

yeah i thought that would be the case, how easy is that to do? I mean do i need to change the box and the case also? upgrade diffs? brakes? as well as engine mounts?

im doing that conversion at the moment. check out marks4x4adapters.com.
very helpful guys to deal with too.
the only tips i can give you from my experience is to buy a complete commodore to give you everything you need(cat, wiring, pollution gear, intake, etc)
i got a vp for 500 off ebay.
i also used the commy fuel tank where my spare used to be.
your costs are.engineers certificate, adapter from marks, you keep your box and it stays where it is.electrician, exhaust mods, hoses to adapt your a/c and p/s and a tacho and speedo interface.
i might have forgotten a couple of things but marks have all the info you will need.good luck.

look at a 7MG-E from a cressida the engine can be bought cheaply and it is a bolt in job from what i hear (may not be true) has heaps of go and are reasonably economical

We would all love a Lexus, but don't all have ten grand

Does anyone know the kw figures for the commo V6?

I would think at least 150kw is required before it becomes worthwile compared to a 109kw Toyo v6.

Cheers

The Lexus is no heavier on fuel than the commo and there are guys on here that have done the conversion from 5-7 quite easily. 10 is a figure if you dont wish to get your hands dirty. IMO the Lexus is better but there a lot around with the commo 6 in them also. Either would be a improvement on what you have.

3RZ-FE? 2.7 Petrol EFI. Straight bolt in except for the mounts and the wiring...

He doesn't have the 10G which is why other suggestions were made, commo six or the 2.7, depends on which engine and bits you can get cheaper

Which vehicles are the best donors for the Lexus donk :?:

I also didn't see mention of conversion parts for these on the Marks site, or did I not look hard enough :?:

Back on topic, probably one of the Toyota engine swaps would be cheapest as I would reckon there are less aftermarket parts required.

Not that I have investigated this yet.

Cheers

You didn`t see anything on the marks site about the lexus because they don`t make anything to suit them YET!!!!!!!!! I was chatting to Mark French at Vic Winch this year and he was picking my brains about the conversion in my hilux.

comm motors go from 127kw for a vn up up to (dont quote me)147 for the vs-vt models.torque is greater than the 3.0 toy but the vehicle he owns is a first gen that only came with 4 cylinders.so anything is an improvement. :!: :)

Coomo V6's will also return about the same fuel economy as the 4Y. Exactly the reason I'm thinking of going down the Turbo-Diesel route now instead of a V6....

brand new 4y $1350, bolt in no wiring or mods, just a set of extractors and a good exhaust, any conversion will set you back at least $3000 even doing it yourself, I looked right into it for a mate and in the end, $1350 bolt it in and accept it will just go ok, easy to sell if you need too, It ain't going to be easy, next best best Lexus on surf auto, all fits a lot easier if youve got $3k plus and heaps of tools

"Toyota do they make engines" that was the reply I got from Marks adaptor to them there are only 2 engines in the world Holden and Chev

The 7mg-e is an easy conversion and cheaper to do then a Commo with as much or more power

if you had the money the 1UZ is the best engine to get but the 7mg is heaps cheaper

U can run a supra bell and 7mge, but cost in time and diff ratio swaps will be high, another 4 cylinder would be the go, maybe a celica motor or similar...contact the jap motor importers, if you buy an injected motor, you will also have to convert fuel tank....a mate of mine has just pulled out his v6/5 speed from a runner and put in a diesel.....that would work well :) It is in Sydney

The 1UZ is in the LS400/Toyota Soarer of both vintages.

The LS430 has a 3UZ, has anyone done this conversion? Is it just a 1UZ with modded internals?[/img] [/b]

If you stick to a Toyota motor you are less likely to spend up big on adapters
