I currently own a 1994 RB30 LWB nissan patrol and a 1990 TB42 SWB ford maverick.I use the nissan for towing my race car and the RB30 is under powered .My Maverick has the TB42 drive line I was thinking of swapping the drivlines over.Has anyone done this before and if so is there any major differences in the vehicles besides the obvious that would make this a less than straight forward driveline swap.eg wiring ,clutch booster.

youll need gear box but other than that i think all the mounts are the same, youll also need differnt driveshafts as the flanges are different, not sure on length. the transfers are the same except for the plate on the input shaft of the transfer are different (rb30 has a lip to hold oil) and the shift lever on the side is a different length. the pick up in the tank on the rb30 has a elec primer pump so you may need to swap that over. and i think they run a different radiator. plus all the wireing probly easier to swap complete looms over as the carby has wires and stuff going everywhere. clutch master cylinder are also different and the rb30 has no booster.

Also, standard diff ratio's in a 4.2 are 3.9's, and in a 3 litre they are 4.11's. All this means is it'll go a bit harder off the mark, but you'll lose a bit of top end.

put a turbo on the rb30 and it should easy pull a zook, my non turbo with efi and aftermarket ecu, running 35's and 5" lift tows my brothers hilux resonable well. if your worried about the gearbox crs aparently make an adaptor to bolt the 4.2 box upto the rb30

I won't be towing a zook I race speedway and i have a VS commodore which I have been towing all over N.S.W for the past four years with the RB30. The donk is getting a bit tired been thinking about selling the Maverick and just bitting the bullet and fitting a V8 instead.I don't want to sell the GQ Patrol as she has been that reliable over the years she has never missed a beat except when I first brought it as some ding bat back yardie left a pair of needlenose pliers in the bellhousing.I towed all over the place and the pliers didn't cause me grief until 2 years after I brought it when they finally worked their way into the pressure plate. What a noise it made, it had me at a loss until I pulled the gearbox out. I just couldn't believe that some goose left them in there. Well all I can say was at least it happened when I was turning into my street. It could have been much worse I could have been way out of town with the race car on.
