Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi Folks
Have a leaking exhaust manifold gasket on No5 pot and will be sorting it this weekend.

Any problems I need to look out for. Seems pretty straight forward but will probably take some time. I intend to also change the inlet as well while its off.

Any hints would be much appreciated.

Stop at supercrap and pick up a tube of the red/orange silicone for a caulking gun. Thats what i use these days for my exhaust gaskets and sometime thermostat,etc,etc. Works well.

inlet manifold is a 2 piece item.....

If you have air-con it is going to be fun.......Will take the best part of half a day to complete..... you also need the torque specs for the head bolt cause the aircon bracket is held in place with two of the head bolts....

Even if you replace the manifold gasket you may still have a leak if you don't use the silicon on it as old manifolds never seem to seal 100%.........

also careful of the turbo return line as I broke this when I pulled my turbo off.............

There's a support from the turbo outlet to the engine block. When remounting the manifold in the car, you should loosen this support from the turbo outlet until you have tightened the manifold nuts. If you don't do this, you risk that the support bottoms before the manifold is tightly mounted to the head, and the leak will be back in a few days.
After the manifold is tightened, then retighten the nuts and bolts on the support.
I had to do this twice because i wasn't aware of this the first time.
I used a thin layer of exhaust mounting compound on each side of the gasket, and now it's been in there for two years with no problem and 1,7kg/cm2 of boost....

yeah....

take ya time with the nuts/bolts ........ the heat effect will most likely have seized em up so be prepared and have a helli set and stud extractor set handy.

And yes it has aircon, buggar!!! I'll add a tension wrench to the list.
