HI fellas and shelas
I am new to the world of Diesel, so please give me a bit of room here
Just got a 4.2L 92 DX Patrol, i am getting around 600-700K's to a 90L tank of Diesel. Is this about right for a patrol?
Also how do you tell if your pump is stuffed? leaking diesel everywhere? mine isn't but i wanted to know if there are symptoms, keep my eye out for them

I still haven't figured out what size tank I have, as I am not keen about taking the chance of running her dry. Anyways, I am getting about 11-14 L / kms in my 1991 TD 4.2. Things were bad when I bought it. Lots of black smoke. Changed the airfilter as it was clogged. That improved things a lot. I just put in a K&N Filter which is suppose to help even more with the power and economy. Haven't recorded the economy on that yet. Also, if your injectors or your IP are shagged, than that will affect your economy. I've got new injectors coming any day now. They should be done about every 100,000 - 140,000 kms depending on your driving habits and quality of fuel. The other obvious things that will affect your economy is tire size, gear ratios, weight and aerodynamics. If you are only 4bying every once and a while, take all the extras off and empty her out. Cheers,
John

im averaging about 750, but thats nefore it goes to the empty line. I use flashlube when i fill up most of the time, car barely smokes, more economy, more power. I reccomend it. Last time i checked i was gettin 11l to 100k but thats before i started using the flash lube

I own a 94 4.2D 224,000km old
I get 650 around town every tank! I fill up as soon as it hits empty line most times and it takes about 80lt. I figure the tanks are around 85lt? Can anyone confirm?

I only seem to get around 550, but havent let it run very dry, always worried about picking up dirty fuel. My guage seems a bit funny when it gets close to empty probablly got another 20 litres only ever put about 75 litres in it.
On a trip to Qld from SA last year towing a camper we avg 12l/100km.
Just had the injectors done, extractors and 2.5" and dynoed b4 the trip.
Have just fitted a snorkel and want to get a K&N for it soon.

I have a 91 Turbo Diesel (4.2) Auto Wagon (200Ks) and I get 480-500ks before refueling - my figures show between 12-15ltr per 100ks. I always got 10-12ltrs per 100ks out of my previous manual 4.2ltr Diesel wagon (1989 GQ), I am surprised at how bad this one is, I expected the auto would use more fuel, but thought the turbo might assist with economy. I am also a bit disapointed with the lack of power. I had a GXL Manual Diesel 80 Series Crusier (350Ks) before this Patrol and it was heaps better on fuel and pulled stronger.
I am looking at a 3" exhaust and snorkel with K&N airfilter to give me better power... will this make much of a difference????????/

89 diesel(obviously) wagon, only 2" lift and 31" muds , last trip 4000klm and averaged 12.4 litres per 100k, mix of highway, desert and bush, Pretty good in my books for a big rectangular brick, done a bit over 300,000klm.
