Outer Limits 4x4 Board

hi, i was wondering what is needed in regards to body lifting a solid axel 85 diesel 4runner, ie brakeline extensions, steering arm etc, is currently running 2 or 3 " ome suspension lift with 31's, thinking about running 33's as 35's are too hard to push, any info would be great, also if there are any easier ways to get more flex, nothing worse than getting wedged lifting a leg with open diffs,

if you do 2 inch body you need the block if you do 3 inch you will need steering shaft extender and you can bend your brake lines down enough

as for more flex in leaf spring is take one leaf out of all spring

You need two inch radiator dropper brackets,
The break lines should stretch enough, just keep an eye out when jacking the body up.

remove the cover under the rear wheel arch and keep an eye on the fuel filler tubes as well.

I did my 94 and it is a piece of p**s. Almost as though Toyo wanted you to do this mod

so as for steering arm extention and shifter mods i should b e safe up to a three in lift?

If you want to maintain some cabin isolation from noise and fumes you should extend the gear stick (if manual) by 2" as well.

If the lift is only 2" the stubby stick should be able to be left standard length.

That way the rubber boots around the gearstick should only need minor surgery with a stanley knife.

Yes and no... you could get away without running a steering shaft extension, bit can risk it ripping out half way up a track... they are only around $35, and not something to scrimp on...

The sticks should be fine, but you will have to mod your floor a little, and this isnt generally looked upon well by the constabulary/roads people so u can get them bent, or extended... once again, not gonna cost much to do the job properly...

Check list for body lift:
- blocks and bolts.
- steering shaft extension (if goin 3" body lift)
- drop brackets for radiatior (can be made easily from 25mm x 2mm flat bar)
- with the 3" susp lift you will probably need new brakelines aswell....

were can u get steering shaft extender for $35 i see them for over $100

My bad, i did see them advertised in a 4wd monthly mag for $35... on snake they are $150, bbm $130, marks 4wd $130.

yeah cheers id jump on one for $35, mannel motors wanted 140. Some one was telling me they cut and shut theirs but that option sounded a bit rough? does any one know of a write up here on crossover and hi steer steering setups advantages' disadvanteges etc

i found that an 86 model ifs steering shaft is an inch or so longer than the solid axle one get down to a wreckers and you should find one cheap.also no dramas with rego or engineers or insurance as it is a stock factory part.
the gear sticks might need a little bending,remove them feom the car to do this.
two inches is the most you can go without an eng certificate in most cases.
