racing seats

I'm just wondering what the CCDA rules are regarding racing seats. Do they have to be to a particular standard? 2-pt or 4-pt harness? Are they allowed to recline and are they allowed to be on sliding rails?
Are the autotechnica(sp?) type ones from autobarn,etc. any good and do they conform to CCDA standards?

They need to be an approved seat as per ADR's and it needs to be at least a 4point harness for most classes of vehicles.

Harnesses are not allowed to be fitted for street use in cars built after late 1974.
You can have mount points fitted for when you compete etc, but the harnesses must be removed for the street.

My interpretation of this according to Vicroads info was that harness may be fitted and used. However, OE seatbelt must remain fitted to car at all times to remain roadworthy.
Could be different in Vic or i might have read it wrong.

MY understanding is
Seat belt can not be 5 point
belt must comply to ADRS
belt bust have a NORMAL TYPE RELEASE it does not have to be on the side, so a 4 point with the two shoulder straps and the lap sach that has one single press to release latch is acceptable.
Aircraft types latchet, latched that need bits added before plugging in etc are a no no
Basically I understand that it so in the vent of an accident ANYONE can release the seat belt
best thing you can do is ring an engineer and ask the question

You might be right, it could be different for Vic.

i was told by my modplater/engineer that they are allowed to be fitted but not used at ANY time on road. for the reason that some people dont have the brain to remove a harness if ur out of it and most people dont carry belt knives to cut you out in that cercumstance.
on that point i explained that my retractable belt fits like shit on my fixed back seats to which he said the law is the law they dont think of things in the real world. so wear the harness aswell if you dont feel safe, but you can get dont for not wearing a belt if you dont have a lap belt on. or if you have a harness on.

Yeah, I'm in QLD and I could have the harness fitted and it was originally a 5 point harness. I changed it because it took too long to get back into the harness in a stage. You need to have the OE belt fitted to the vehicle. It doesn't need to be used. The harness needs to have the mounting points engineered though.
