Does anyone know the model for the K&N for a TD42 GQ and is it the pre filter or main filter. Iam looking at fitting a turbo soon and want to get the right filter that will stay in the vehicle after the turbo is fitted. I read that someone was using the pre filter housing modified for a turbo setup as the main was restrictive.

cool

Don't bother they are fantastic at marketing but the end product leaves a lot to be desired particularly in the harsh enviroments we 4x4 users find ourselves in.
Here's a link to an interesting comparison on air filters in the States.

K&N FILTERS are not really designed for off road use more for hiperformance road & track work you wont see a rally car or offroad race car using them they all use foam filters with several layers and change the outer layer every stage. if you hold a k&n up to the sun you can see daylight though it.the more flow a filter has the less afective they are ,on our drag car we dont use any filters at all but its all about power. stick with a paper filter or a uni filter but clean and reoil the outer layer every time you drive in dusty conditions

My intention is to keep the original and use it whenever offroad in the appropriate conditions but for around town and highway if I can save a bit of fuel and get a little bit extra then why not?

I tried them in my GQ in the configs of:

k&n BOTH main filter/precleaner
k&n precleaner/Main paper
k&n main/ Pre paper

No more power, no better, if not worse filtering (raced bikes for ~10yrs, so know how to oil em properly) with fair wack of crap on the wrong side of the filter in the airbox, and in the ductin from precleaner to main, so went back to Paper.

Sticking with paper in the GU now too.
