Im lookin at upgrading my headlight globes on my 93 d/c hilux, looking at going 90/130w globes and using piranha superlooms (or a similar product)

Just wondering wat other globes people are using, and if the superlooms are worth the extra cash, prob look at getting lightforce 170's in the future as well

The looms are worth the dollars if you can't be bothered buying the wire and relays yourself.

You don't need them to upgrade your globes but you do need them to get the full benifit and get rid of teh yellowing that the headlighst get from teh crappy quality wire your car currently has.

Make sure that you get the correct loom for your vehicle. The headlight system in the hilux needs a load on it and it you use a normal loom without the resistance built in you will find that your lights will be very bright. Why ? Cause your low beams will stay on all the time, even when you put your high beams on. So in effect you will have say 200 plus watt of power. Then your reflectors will crack.

You can get Narva H4 kits for the Hilux for about $80 inc bulbs and stuff, so it is pretty cheap and well worth the effort to change from sealed beams.

Not that familiar with 'luxes, but on most cars if you're weighing up whether to upgrade the globes or upgrade the wiring, you ought to upgrade the wiring first. Relays and nice fat wire will make your existing globes a lot brighter.

On the other hand, add brighter bulbs without upgrading the wiring and you won't get much bang for your bucks.

I agree it is worth upping the wiring as the new globes will draw a lot more current.

Is there any difference between the different brands of h4 insert: Hella, Narva, IPF etc?

I know the IPF comes with much brighter globes than the Hella but is it worth paying the extra $$$ for the reflector?

upgrade the wiring as standard lux wiring is like 2mm max. CRAP. because lux and almost all other toyotas are the same, wiring loom is same except for number of globes connected. probably width as well

ive replaced wiring on my 84 single cab, havent replaced globes as sealed unit and dont want to replace atm when still works. HUGE DIFFERENCE

the toyotas are negative switched globes, so common on globe is at 12volts, and the low or high is switched to ground to turn on. parts needed are 2 x h4 connectors, 2 x relays, 2 x fuses, and diode and resistor.oh yeah, wire. the diode and resistor prevent low lights staying pernamently on, can get from dick smiths etc for less than 5 bucks.

have shematics of standard wiring and modified wiring, is for 80 series. works same way, just has extra globe for high beam. cant seem to attach though, says too big (pixels x pixels) and too big size (kb). help.

I have been using Zenon Blue globes made by Trifa. These are still 60\55 w globes but are brighter and whiter light then normal H4s. They are made for Europe. Ideal for later model vehicles with plastic lights.
