If water gets inside your snorkel where you dont paint it... Rust is the least of your worries
Stainless would be the best way, although a MIG makes it a little bit harder. I'm sure some of the guys can give you tips of what to use though.
Even cut it all up, and get someone to weld it for you.. won't cost overly much.

you can weld stainlees with normal steel mig wire and gas, but the weld will look like a normal steel weld, fine if your going to paint it. i only used mild steel for mine 2yrs old and no signs of rust

I have been considering the same and my opinion is to make it out of mild steel.
It is easier to work with especially to weld.
It is also cheaper.
It could be powder coated quite cheaply as well yet offer a professional finish.
Yes stainless is far superior and cleaner, but it is just a snorkel after all and will still look sh**loads better than a plastic one.

Use mild and zinc coat it, $40 - $50

I did the one for the wifes zook in 3" mild steel with a mandrel donut for the bends and a donaldson air ram on top.
I just painted mine in satin black enamel.
Its not bling but it matches the rest of the zook

I got mine from Coventrys through work.
Any exhaust place should be able to get them for you though.

a lot of the exhaust donuts are welded in to pieces leaving an ugly weld around the outside its worth paying a few extra dollars and getting the bends you need, saves time trying to cut bends as well

I have made my new snorkel for my Nissan with its 1uzfe conversion, and I have used a 3-inch donut. I used a donut, as the curve is tighter than a 3-inch mandrel bend, this let me get the tube, close to the mudguard.
It was not hard to grind the weld on the seam of the donut so it could not seen, I then painted it with metallic black automotive acrylic paint, it looks like it was powder coated.
I made my old snorkel this way for my Nissan nearly 20 years ago, and it still looks good, just did not fit the 1uzfe engine.
