reseating tyre bead

Ok, from another thread that got me thinking.
I want to know whats the methods for reseating a bead on a tyre.
From blowing the whole tyre off the rim to just having one leaking air through the bead due to mud.
Whats the trail fix for this?

take wheel off, use hilift to pop bead completely, clean out and lube up bead, then reset with a blast of air, or a trick i was shown out at appin with the good old Aerostart,

I know its a simple concept, but someone want to go into a little more detail?
Cheers

Mud in the bead, slow leak? Deflate to about 5-10 psi, douse the bead in soapy water (bubbles will appear where it leaks air), hit the sidewall with a rubber hammer, crap will float out from the air escaping.
Aerostart, degreaser, all good. WHOOSH!

do you want more detail on the cleaning of the bead or resetting?
for the resetting: clean beads and lube them before either process.
jack up car and take weight off the tire, remove inner valve,
then follow either:-
Aerostart: use aerostart, and spray into the tire, meanwhile have some one standing by with some tissue paper, light tissue paper and throw at wheel, the aerostart will ignite so stand back. the previous pic you will see the tissure paper ignighting the aerostart.
just be warned that too much aerostart can keep burning inside for some time, use sparingly, practice make perfect.
Air: its quite simple, hit with air pressure, normally it doesnt take much, but you may need a ratchet strap round the tire to put pressure on the beads, it will help them set easier,
after both processes, re insert inner valve, and inflate to required pressures.
if anyone wants to add anyhting, go for your lives.

Tonka, when you getting your air set up done, have a tank that holds around 100-120 psi. Ths should be enough to reseat beads. Make sure firstly the beads of tyre and rim are clean, and use plenty of lubricant.

We had some mud in the bead of one of my tyres so we lay it flat on the ground and drove over it with another car to un-seat the bead... This was a lot easier than using tyre plyers and didn't do any damage to the tyre bead
No cool ideas for reseating though - we just used air

one cheat trick for airing up is ratchet strap put it around the tyre when airing up helps when all the air is leaking just remember to release before the tyre grow to full diameter and breaks the strap

or winch cable !!!
same principle , put around tyre , start to air up , soon as it seats the bead , release cable !!!
aerostart or WD40 is fun , when it works !!!!!!

maybe I'm the only one without any idea here, but how does something flaming help re-seat the bead?
what exactly happens?

I've reseated beads at home with the ARB compressor in the mav (was too lazy to go round the back and use the workshop compressor), I have a locking air chuck inflator that closes when disconnected from the valve, so the ARB charges up to full pressure. had to wiggle the rim around a bit to seal, though once you get half a pound of pressure against the sidewall it will seal and then inflate (provided you aren't trying to mount a 31 on a 10 inch rim...)

I'm guessing that the aerostart ignites (explodes) and the heated air expands rapidly - this 'inflates' the tyre and seats the bead very quickly...
how close was that?

you spray a small amount of substance inside the tyre !!
throw your flaming tissue at it !!
when the gas fumes ignite , it causes an explosion (as such) , inside the tyre !!
causing the expansion of the tyre on to the rim !!!
& if your lucky , about 2-3lbs of pressure !!!!

There is a few simple rules for trail reseating of beads
1 Clean beads carefully.
2 Remove valve core.
3 Lubricate tyre bead.
4 Use highest volume compressor available.
5 Make sure your will is written & your estate is in order before using AeroStart.

i've seen the explosive trick used on a 44in tyre that those arctic snow trucks use. the tyre jumped about 3 foot into the air when she blew

Pump up your spare tyre to 80psi. Connect the tyre to be re-seated to the spare and the rapid supply of air will re-seat the bead. You need to make a hose with a couple of valve clamps either end.
