Going to install an oil temp gauge into the auto of my Sierra......
Where would be the best place to install the sender to get the best reading?
Should it be in the oil pan or the output to the cooler?

The "output to the cooler" will give you the highest reading temp wise, it wont tell you the general overall temp but it will be close enough. Cavatation of the oil may also be an issue if the sender unit isnt well placed, the effect may be that the reading may be incorrect.
The "oil pan" will give a good indication of general overall temp.
I'd be more concerned as to the location chosen being easily damaged by "sticks/focks/etc", the oil pan outlet would be more susceptible to this type of damage compared to the cooler outlet, yes ???
Also .........
if the outlet is fitted to the pan ...... what grief will it cause when a service is to be done to the auto ???
Me thinks the answer is obvious now
