extractors ??

hey all,

sorry to visit a well worn topic again, but i just have a couple of questions...

* as mentioned previously, apart from mild power loss and oil usage the current original engine i have is going ok, and i might milk it for a while longer, rather than prematurely swap it now. but i am thinking about fitting some extractors. so for future reference, am i right in presuming that extractors for the feroza HD engine will fit straight onto an applause engine, if i end up doing the swap??

* after reading previous posts on the various brands of extractors that people have fitted to their roza's, i was just after an update on the satisfaction in your choice re. performance, fuel consumption improvements, cracks, price etc...

thanks

john

Have "Wildcats" cheap and worth the effort - as the Appluase is the same HD motor there is no problem.

Just checking - you dont mean Applause extractors on a Feroza as they WONT fit.

You can get Hurricanes from Liverpool Exhausts in Sydney for around $280- $300.

Got a set shipped from MRT to England, had them on since last December.
Some reports floating about from people in the US (I think) that cracks have appeared on some sets.
Nothing untoward showing on mine so far, and the welds look of good standard.
Noticable gains in conjunction with a K&N, old filter box and plumbing removal and cold air feed hose added.

MRT are best for DIY - come ready to bolt on with flex and gearbox mount. If you can see before you buy they'd be worth a look. I've got Hurricanes and am still very happy with them.

david, how did you go fitting in the flex bellows with the hurricanes?? do you still have the gearbox mount??

thanks to all for the input...

I got my father inlaw to weld the flex join on, fabricate up the gearbox mounts and then cut/shut the standard cat joiner onto them. A lot of stuffing around.

The MRT's are supposed to bolt straight on- no welding / cutting/ shutting involved. Bank on having to buy a new oxy sensor and have a plan on what to do if you find a broken manifold stud.... ;)

yeah, i've been puting off doing the o2 sensor til i had the extractors fitted. i've been quoted approx $400 to supply and fit some hurricanes with some flex and a bracket. don't think the guy i spoke to on the phone is the one who'll be fitting them. i'll have a chat to them on sat morning and make sure we're all on the same page.

thanks

i got a set of hurricane extractors on my feroza with a full 2 inch exhaust for $500 fitted. ive done a bit of 4x4ing since i got it and there are no cracks i don't think the flex joint is maybe necessary (touch wood). fuel consumption stayed about the same although i did upgrade the tyre size at the same time so probably would give slightly better economy with normal tyres. the extractors really made a difference in the 1900-3500rpm range for me.

just had the extractors fitted... hurricanes with flex and bracket in tact.
you can notice the difference but it's only mild. will fit a new o2 sensor and maybe get a tune when i get the chance. how's the heat!!! is it possible/effective to get it heat wrapped once they're in??

You'll void your warranty is you heat wrap them and they most likely won't last as long. ;)

The increase is subtle, but you should get bigger gains with a free flowing filter now. I got a similar increase after removing the viscous hub fan too - it all adds up!

Get it tuned to run on 98 Octane fuel if you don't mind spending the few extra $$$ at each refuel and you'll get more too.

i've been running 98 since i bought it (a legacy of the old rover days ). i'll change the o2 sensor, throw a hi-flow filter in and get a tune... it's all good, happy enough with what i've got til the swap/rebuild

thanks once again to all
