Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Morning all....

Years ago I had a little 85 hightop sierra, 3" lift, 31" wheels, and just generally a nice little car. It went everywhere, and I was sad to see it go.

My sister was sick of hering me whinge about it, so I have just been offered her 94 softtop in original condition for pretty cheap ($1500 including pinkslip...), and am wondering where I should start. It has high km's, but most of that has been a daily commute from Kurrajong to Granville for the last few years. And it's never been offroad.

What are some of the better, ummmm, cheaper mods I can do early on?

It needs new carpet and a new soft top, new tyres (so that obviously means new 15x7 wheels.....), and the suspension has sagged a bit (what a shame....). I am reading through this site, and the virtual lift looks quite good, so that'll probably get done fairly soon as well. The motor has done 170,000km, and is still the original, so I'd expect that to need replacing or rebuilding soon too, as well as the gearbox (it's a little looser than I remember my old one being). Oh, and the steering is very loose - pretty typical, I think..

Anyway - anything else that you guys can think of that will improve it's performance / ability / looks fairly cheaply? During the week it'll be my wifes running around car (welded diffs are probably out for now - lol), but on the weekends it'll be mine....... .

i have spent $1100 on my zuuk. i cut it to a bikini top put a 2inch exhaust from cat back put bigger wheels on 215 75 15 all terrains with sunrasiers and it looks a little modded.

For the soft top: If you dont have a family go the ute soft top from maria on this site. There awsome!

For suspension: Get some 2 inch lifted springs(Theres some on ebay at the moment) Then make up some extended shackles!

Tyres: Get some 30 inch muds or if you go vertual lift 31's!

Diffs: If you want weld them or buy some lockers!

Mine with all the stuff in my sig line was $3500 with out the extended shackles, draws, roof, rock rails and soft top!

So it owes me about probably $4500(had to get new motor ) and it keeps up with cars with 33's and lockers easily!

Just have fun and play around with it for a while untill you get it to what you want it like!

virtual lft sound like something you make up on a computer tried looking for it on site what is it, is it a brand of springs ?:?

Its where you cut the gaurds to fit bigger tyres.

So that the centre of gravity isn't any higer

Virtual lift is modifying guards basically to get bigger wheels in there.
Also 170,000 isnt that big a deal, it should last like another 100,000 before it starts to get smokey etc...

Offset rims won't help in regards to a virtual lift, they actually make it worse. Go the virtual if you think you can make it look at, not that looks are important, but bear in mind that once you've done one you have to do the rest and if it looks shiat and you aren't happy, well. Start with a front guard at least you can replace that.

Consider a body lift, there isn't much weight in a Sierra body. Plus there is a lot less friggin about.

the offset rims I mentioned are for helping with center of gravity and yes will hit without big lift

haha i agree carpet is not the best option.. but if your missus is driving it then you may need some lining. i went for rubber checkerplate (6mm) in my beast. my gf loves it things it looks good. and i can rip it out and hose it off when ever i want. got it from clarks rubber

Go the high sided rubber floor mats and get rid of the carpet vinyl etc, etc.

Or using your old carpet as a stencil cut some marine carpet to suit.
