New Hilux TD Problem

A workmate has a problem with his 2005 3.0TD Hilux that Toyota can't solve, while returning home from a weekend of 4WDing, on the freeway at 110kph the car died, the engine management light came on and no power.
So he pulled up got out had a look couldn't see anything fallen off, so looked in the manual for help.
The manual explains the reset thing, so he did the reset and it went again, but 5 min down the road same thing the car stopped.
After getting the car home it was off to Toyota, after a full day at Toyota and finding a fault code, they claim they don't know what the error code is and of course can't fix it.
Has anyone had or heard of this problem
Baz.

Tell us the error code. Then things can follow from there.

That's not really good enough... I'd be taking it to another dealership, or taking it to Toyota Australia if the answers your friend is getting do not solve the problem...
Where are you located?

He's in the Hurstville area southern Sydney, i will talk to him today see what the error code is, and get a bit more info.
I know if it were me i'd want some answers as to why they don't know the fault code, seems a bit strange to me.

Well i have an update on his hilux, it dies mostly when he puts the boot in and when doing high speeds (freeway stuff)
now this is the strange part, if he uses the cruise control it doesn't happen, apparently this is how he got the car home.
Now Stewarts Toyota have basicly said they couldn't find anything wrong, with the car and now he's on his own.

o that sucks :(
generally speaking the ECU rembers all the fault codes so they just plug the pc into it and it will tell them what faulted. if its a werid code they simply need to contact Toyota Australia or Toyota japan for the unlisted codes.
it almost sounds like a tps fault but that has a standard error code

It's very disappointing (dare I say "nissan like") for them to say they don't know what the code is.
However from the symptom you describe, i.e. "it's OK when on cruise" I'd suggest the dealer should be looking at the accelerator pedal potentiometer.
