Hi im in the process of fitting a MAZDA 121 01/1991-01/1996 (HITACHI LR165709 ) alternator to my zuk.

It all fits apart from the wiring the sierra one has a three prong plug and the mazda one has a two prong plug.

here's a pic Image

My Question is what are the three wires coming out of the sierra alternator.

Thanks Brad

Is your engine still original 1.o litre?
If so the alternator uses an external regulator, fitted on firewall inside passenger footwell, above the little tray thing.

You must use an alternator designed for this, or you need to rewire the zook to suit internal regulator.
It took an auto elec all of 4 minutes to bypass my ext reg when I fitted a 1300 motor to it.

this is probably why you have 3 wires, at a guess?

Looking at the wiring diagram for the 1000cc we have.

White with Blue tracer is +12v to your battery (charge wire)

And in the 3 pin plug.=- All 3 wires go to the regulator.
White with Black Trace
White With Green Trace.
Black.

From the regulator

White with Blue Trace is +12v
Black With White Trace is Ignition +12v
White with Red trace goes to the dash light.

Most altinators only use 2 wire plugs.
Pin 1 is marked "S" which is the sence wire (+12v from ignition)
Pin 2 is marked "L" which is the dash light.

Cheers
Simon.
