it sounds stupid i know, but is there a way to see if the hubs are locking besides going off road? i just had a free suspension safety test by opposite lock and the guy said the left hub wasnt locking in?
GQ by the way, thannks

best thing i can think of is, turn the car off, leave it in first (or park if its a auto) and 4wd, lock both hubs and jack one wheel and then turn that wheel by hand if it spins free the hub is not locked. i have only done this once and it seemed to work. cheers scott

Correct me if wrong, if you have an open front diff, then this wont prove anything. The hub may be locked and the diff is allowing free spin to the lifted wheel. For this method to work you would need to have a locked front diff.
To be honest i think the only way to check is to go offroad and have a spotter, keep in mind if wheel in question spins through drive being applied at all the hub is locked.
Ask how the OL mech did it?

If your only jacking up one wheel this method will work.
Leaving the car in the deck, in 2wd with the hubs locked, and turning the prop shaft (as drop bear suggested) is heaps easier but won't identify which hub is stuffed.

thanks for the replys.
I got a bit lost in there, what was the correct way? I tried G60's way, parked it, 1st gear hi range hubs locked. Jacked up one wheel and no it didnt spin. So??

jack up that left corner, hubs locked both sides, tcase in 2wd
spin the left wheel, the drive shaft should turn if the hub is working
unlock that hub and spin the wheel, the drive shaft shouldn't turn as the wheel is not engaged

dropbears method and g60 and both show the hubs are fine. So i think i was an attempt at being ripped off by opposite lock. Jst to clarify, your hubs dont lock in do they when you put it in 4wd, they alrady are right? it's only the fronts that do? just thought i'd ask incase he meant the rears. Either way im not happy, it's ridiculous a store of that stature is still doin the dodgy on people

Your rear wheel/wheels are being driven at all times. Putting it in 4x4 locks the front diff to the transfer case via the front prop shaft. Locking the front hubs in does exactly that, locks them in to the front diff & axles.
If you have tried the above methods and they are working, you have nothing to worry about

Some later GQ factory hubs are missing the little ball and spring and vibrate out when driving. Open hub and check.
Small biro type spring and an ols ball bearing needed.
Hub should only be lightly greased or oiled not filled with grease as this will hold it off too.
